Itinerary:

Day 1 – 3: Private Mobile Safari: Khwai
Upon arrival at Maun airport you will be met by a member of the Golden Africa team. From Maun airport you will transfer by light aircraft to a private camp ground in the Khwai region of the NE Okavango. The 30 minute flight offers a fantastic opportunity to view the Okavango Delta from a different perspective; have your eyes peeled and cameras to hand as you never know what you may spot!

Your private guide will be waiting to meet you at Khwai airstrip and will take you a short distance to your 'bush home' for the next 3 nights. Once you have settled into your new home you will head out for your first game drive to see the wildlife and scenery of Khwai. After watching the sun go down, you return to camp where there will be a chance to freshen up, or you may prefer to head straight to the camp-fire where you can sit, relax and have a drink before your 3 course dinner, prepared by the camp’s private chef.

For the next two days you wake early for a light breakfast, around an hour before sunrise, so that you are out in the vehicle early, maximising the opportunity to see the wildlife when it is at its most active.  Arrival back into camp will be around 11am when you will have a well-earned brunch followed by a siesta, shower or simply relaxing and taking in the views and sounds of the bush around you. As the day starts to cool off, afternoon tea will be available before you head out for your afternoon game drive. Depending on what sightings you come across, you will stop for sundowner drinks at a scenic spot before heading back to camp for dinner. All full days on safari will follow a similar structure to this.

Days 4 – 5: Xobega Island Camp
After breakfast on day 4, your early morning game drive will take you further into the heart of the Okavango Delta. You will transfer by boat to the stunning Xobega Island Camp which is located on a small peaceful island within the great waterways of the Okavango.

This eco-friendly camp gives you the opportunity to see the Okavango from the perspective of the large open waterways, lagoons and channels. Here your game-viewing is by boat, on foot and by the traditional method of navigating the Okavango, the mokoro.  The Delta’s watery habitats are home to a range of wildlife species including hippo, elephant, crocodile, otter and the elusive sitatunga. It is a birder’s paradise; if you are lucky enough you may get a glimpse of the very rare Pel’s fishing owl.

Day 6 – 9: Private Mobile Safari: Moremi
After this Delta getaway is complete you will transfer by boat back to the boat station and be driven to the next luxury mobile camp. This will be in the Moremi Game Reserve. Here you will be reunited with the backup crew and prepare to explore a contrasting wildlife region.

Whether it is the leopard and wild dog country of Khwai, or the mighty lion populations of Moremi, game viewing is sure to be unique and your Golden Africa guide will expertly track the wildlife, delivering an Okavango experience to remember.

On your final morning you will have an early breakfast followed by a game-drive before flying back to Maun airport in time for your connecting flight, or onward arrangements.

Should you wish to add the Victoria Falls, or other destinations within Botswana to your safari itinerary, please let us know, and we will be happy to make these arrangements for you.
